Pickled pumpkin is very popular in Latvia. This is a very tasty dish that can be eaten as a snack or used in salads.

Cooking steps

  1. Cut the pumpkin into wedges, remove the skin from the pumpkin, remove the seeds and cut into approximately 1.5 cm cubes.

  2. Pour water into a saucepan, add sugar and vinegar. Bring to a boil.
  3. Instead of vinegar, you can use a tablespoon of citric acid and a little lemon juice. At the same time, the taste of the dish will be different. The pumpkin will become more like a dessert. I also recommend trying it, - Mila.

  4. Add cloves and cinnamon to the boiling solution. Let the syrup simmer over low heat for 10 minutes.

  5. Pour the chopped pumpkin into the boiling syrup and continue to cook over low heat for 5-7 minutes, until the pumpkin cubes become translucent, but should not be mushy.

  6. Turn off the heat and let the contents of the pan cool.

  7. Place the pumpkin in a glass jar, close it tightly and let it stand in a cool place for a day so that the pumpkin marinates well. After this, the pickled pumpkin is ready to eat.
  8. You can also use this recipe to prepare pumpkin for the winter. To do this, place the still hot pumpkin in sterilized jars and pour in syrup so that the pumpkin is completely covered,
